OUR CURRICULUM

The SACCI follows a curriculum developed by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China in Taiwan. Our teachers are all native speakers with solid teaching experience.  Our students learn to speak Mandarin Chinese as well as to read and write traditional Chinese characters.

Let's Learn Mandarin

The Huayu (Mandarin) fever is an important global trend and there is increasing demand for Mandarin learning all over the world, the number of learners increasing all the time. Overseas compatriot schools have long been involved in Mandarin teaching and, abreast of the burgeoning demand for learning Mandarin, have begun to develop in the direction of aligning with the mainstream. To promote overseas Mandarin learning, respond to changes in global Mandarin teaching trends and changes in the Mandarin learning environment, the OCAC assembled a professional writing team and developed language teaching materials “Let's Learn Mandarin,” which is suitable for adults in all walks of life, following the foreign language teaching concept and based on grade 1 to grade 2 words and phrases of the Taiwan Benchmarks for the Mandarin (TBCL) developed by integrated Mandarin teaching professionals of the National Academy for Education Research. It is hoped that through natural dialogue and learning the vocabulary needed in daily life, the foundation of Mandarin can be laid and preparation done for advanced study of Mandarin in future.

Let's Learn Mandarin (For Children)

Let's Learn Mandarin (For Children) is built on second-language teaching concepts and incorporates teaching approaches and schedules employed in compatriot schools in Europe and North America. The overall learning framework consists of topics at various levels that align with those set by the World Language Content Standards for California Public Schools and the language learning goals established by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).

Each volume is composed of 12 units with dialogs, vocabulary lists, sentence pattern practice, children's songs and rhymes, and games. The series utilizes both bopomofo and Hanyu Pinyin and includes simplified characters in the notes. Built around everyday conversations, our texts incorporate communication, culture, connection, comparison, and community. Suitable for elementary and junior high school-aged children, this series can help them effectively train their Mandarin listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills and increase their cross-cultural understanding.
